Yes, that’s right. Television news has been put on warning. The internet is right behind you, and soon will likely be people’s preferred choice for news. In a new research study by the Pew Research Center, the internet ranked as the third most popular source for news in America, behind the local network news and the national network news. It surpassed newspapers and radios in popularity. As I said, TV beware.
The study also found that most people turn to multiple sources of information for their news. No longer is it just one newspaper or one broadcast – it is now a combination that probably includes various means of print and digital media. It also highlighted the rise in social networking for sharing/spreading news. More people are sharing links, posting comments, and even creating their own content. And the study noted the significant rise of mobile internet for keeping up on the latest news.
I’m not sure all of these findings would be true in the Middle East. I still get the sense that here the internet is not as important of a news source. In time no doubt, it will be, but adoption is definitely lower.
Take a look at the study yourself – plenty of useful information and it will certainly make marketers realize just how many channels they need to tap into to get messages out these days.
